What are the odds in this case?

roulette strategy

Question by Adkit: What are the odds in this case?
since I’m getting lost in the math here I though I could ask someone who knows his probability maths:

there’s a game online kind of like roulette. if you bet on the “even” they give you a payback of 2.4 and if you bet on the “odd” they give you 1.75. (kind of like betting on all black or all red in roulette).

there are 45 tiles, 18 of them are even and 25 of them are odd. so I figured that the odds of getting an even is 40% and the odds of getting an odd is 55%.

now, my system I’m trying is really simple, I just bet on even and if I win I bet on even again. if I LOSE though then I bet twice the starting amount on even. if I lose again I bet twice the previous amount and so on. which means that after 9 losses I get up to 1000 bucks bets. which is my limit here, let’s say.

now using this strategy it’s easy to win a tiny bit every try. but sooner or later there are going to be 10 odds in a row and since I can’t bet twice that since I’m over my limit I’ve lost.

SO, it’s obvious that you CAN win in this game, but it depends on how long you play it.

MY QUESTION:
what are the odds that I’ll be able to play using this strategy without exeeding my 1024 cash limit up until I get 2048 in winning? I want to know if I have a chance at all or if the amount of bets I would have to do to slowly win a thousand bucks will be so many that the odds of a 10 times odd-streak occurs.

if you understood all that and can figure it out, then please tell me. this method worked up to 10000 once but then I kept playing and lost it all on a freak 14 odds in a row-happening.
hm, ok. but still…what are the odds of 9 losses coming in a row? how do you calculate that?

Look up the Martingale system. It’s very old, and never wins in the long run.

You can figure it out… if you’ve got a 40% chance of winning, then it’s a 60% chance of losing.

Losing twice in a row is 60% * 60%.
Losing 3 in a row is 60% * 60% * 60%
and so on.

The chance of losing 10 in a row is slim, but as you have seen, it can happen. And let’s just say this was real money… each time you win, you are only winning 2.4. If you lost 6 in a row, are you really going to feel comfortable betting 256 (or whatever the number is), on a 40% shot just to win 2.4?

Can I win at Casinooooo?

Question by Jerk: Can I win at Casinooooo?
I’m planning to play blacjack and roulette at this casino i’m goign to go.

I have a decent blacjack strategy, I don’t usually lose more than four in a row, unless i’m super unlucky…I heard that the casino allows a player to surrender (forfeitting half amount of bet if u think ur gona lose)….that’s really good, i didn’t have that back in my old casino. so if the dealer shows a facecard and i have 16 and i feel like hes gonna win, then i surrender and keep the half of my bet…
so if i use my strategy and surrendering, can i win? i can martingale(doubling bet after each loss) too sometimes . many ppl say martingale only brings short term gains and longterm big loss but hey, i’m not a professinoal gambler, im only gonna go der once or twice…

for roulette, its min bet is 1 with no maximum bet. shouldn’t martingale work for SHORT term for this one too??
1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 + 128 + 256 +512 = 1023

jesus what are the chances of screwing up 9 times? i’m not going to keep betting on the same color. i’m going to keep changing until it doesn’t hit the color i want, then martingale from there.

i figured i can make about 40 – 60 dollars an hour depending on how fast roullete plays…and blackjack probably a lot more about 100 – 250 an hour…

any opinions?

In roulette, you cannot expect to make money. You have a negative EV on each individual bet, so how can you have a positive EV on a long string of bets? It doesn’t work.

The “martingale” strategy which you described makes it very likely that you will win a single dollar, but you pay for that with a longshot chance that you will lose your entire bankroll.

To answer your probability question, the chance of losing a color bet nine times in a row is (20/38)^9 = 0.003, or about once every 333 tries. So, on average, you will succeed 332 times, for a gain of +2, but you will lose once, for a loss of -23. Good luck. Assuming that the average martingale iteration lasts for two spins, and there is one spin per minute, it will take you about 11 hours to lose 1, for an expected hourly rate of -.00/hour.

In blackjack, the odds are still in the house’s favor, but by a much smaller percentage. Still, you cannot expect to make money. If your strategy is perfect, you will lose an average of 50 cents for every 100 dollars you bet.

The only way to shift the odds in your favor in blackjack is to count cards, and bet more when the deck is in your favor. Of course, the casino will probably figure out what you’re doing and kick you out.

Q&A: another hard math problem?

roulette strategy

Question by ___: another hard math problem?
You are given 0 in promotional roulette chips. You may play roulette as long as you like but may only keep his winnings above the initial 0. You also may only play the even money bets like red and black. You also may only bet at a time. With two zeros on the wheel the probability of winning any given bet is 20/38. What should your strategy be to maximize your expected winnings and what is the most you can expect to win?

Your strategy should be to play until you reach 0 or bust.

Can you beat this game?

Question by zanti3: Can you beat this game?
This game is played with two spins of a roulette wheel. The wheel has 18 red numbers and 18 black numbers, along with 0 and 00, which are neither red nor black. For each of the two spins, you have the following options:

(1) You can say either “red” or “black”. If the ball lands on the color you guessed, you get 2 points. If the ball lands lands on the other color or on 0 or 00, you get no points.

(2) You can say “either one”. In this case, if the ball lands on either red or black, you get 1 point. However, if the ball lands on 0 or 00, you get no points.

After the second spin:

If you have 3 or 4 points, you have won your bet.

If you have 1 or 0 points, you have lost your bet.

If you have exactly 2 points, a coin toss determines if you have won or lost your bet.

So, what is your best strategy? Can you beat this game?
To the folks saying pick a color on your first spin, planning to pick “either” on your second spin if you get it right:

That all sounds very logical. Now take a look at the following question and see if you have something to say:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiIbUdIGk.2dy3xTwTYOfYrsy6IX?qid=20070425162005AAxV52S

Two posters found the best plan: Call a color on the first spin. If you get it right, call “either” for the second spin, since you now need only one point to win. If you get the first call wrong, go for a tie by calling a color again. Using this plan, the 1444 possible outcomes break down as follows:

(1) Color correct, “either” correct: 18 * 36 = 648 wins
(2) Color correct, “either” wrong: 18 * 2 = 36 “half-wins” (coin toss decides)
(3) Color wrong, color correct: 20 * 18 = 360 half-wins
(4) Color wrong, color wrong: 20 * 20 = 400 losses

Winning percentage: (648 + ½(360 + 36)/1444 = 58.6%

Yes, this plan beats the game! The mathematical expectation is only 1.89 points, but you turn a profit by losing by two as often as possible. It’s a strategy similar to “dumping a loser on a loser” in bridge.

Q&A: is online gamblinglike roulette legal in illinois?

online roulette

Question by jason: is online gamblinglike roulette legal in illinois?

Best answer:

Answer by pdq
Yes, it is legal.

Just in case nobody has told you, I feel that I must. I just want to be sure you understand that these on-line casinos are there to TAKE your money, not to GIVE you any. Furthermore, if you haven’t figured it out for yourself yet, roulette can NOT be beaten. If by some chance you bought some sort of “roulette system” that told you it could help you WIN at roulette, then YOU’VE BEEN SCAMMED. The only people that will make money are the people selling those systems, and the casinos.
