Question by Kyle M: Blackjack strategy in Atlantic City?
I’m planning to go to Atlantic city soon, and have been practicing card counting based on the Basic Zen Count by Snyder. I’m not looking to get rich, but would like to have fun with the odds being slightly in my favor.

Before I go, I’d like to know if I’m right about a few things I’ve heard about the casinos. First, with a betting unit of about $ 5, I heard that most games are 3/2 on blackjack. Second, at these low tables I head that the dealers use 8 decks with about 75-80 percent penetration. In my simulations, I go with the higher 80 percent when I check out my odds. I also heard that in the summer, it’s very difficult to get a seat at these tables.

I’m a little afraid of using the standard 1-15 spread and being found out, so I’m using what I call “1-12 lite”, which goes like:

1,2,5,5,10,12

It has a solid advantage over most other spreads, with a total betting advantage of 0.800 compared to the slightly better 0.836 of the classic 1-15 spread. Do I have reason to worry about getting caught on the 1-15 if I chose to use it? How often will I be betting at 15 times $ 5, percentage-wise if I use this spread?

Finally, any other things I should know about the casinos before going?

Yeah. The casinos will try to find ways around you counting cards. Just be wary of that.
