Question by Robert: How do the casinos make money on Baccarat?
So, either the player wins, or the banker, and none of them lose money when a tie shows up. The odds of a banker and player showing up is almost equal, except the small 5% commission on banker. So, my question is that how is this game profitable for the casino? Basically, it seems to me that they are only profiting on the tie, and the 5% commission, because based on equal odds of player and banker, half of the players should win, and half should lose their bets in the long run [let's say in a sample of 1 million bets per year]. Someone clear things up for me please, because I think the 5% commission would never satiate the casino owners who are seeking to make big money out of these games.

Best answer:

Answer by Leafsfan29
So let’s review…let’s call it a built-in 5% house edge plus ties (which are sizable). Given how much money gets played by whales, that’s a sizable chunk.

You’re talking 5% of the total take. That’s huge.

If US$ 10mm gets wagered, the casino is keeping $ 500,000 (just on the commission), not counting ties. If $ 10mm gets wagered every week, that’s $ 26mm for the casino (and these are very conservative estimates, given that you’re talking close to $ 70-$ 90mm in total wagers on a typical day on all forms of gaming).

Plus, if you’re betting on the player and I’m betting on the banker…only one of us is winning.

Trust me…they’re doing very well.

Question by Bear: Why is it that casinos have cocktail waitresses but no such analogous position exists for men…?
Frankly, I don’t see many men making a big deal about this, despite the fact that these cocktail waitresses make a serious living through the tips they get for serving cocktails to those losing wads of cash whilst playing Baccarat or Blackjack or even the older ladies who play nickel slots.

But here’s a profession that’s entirely reserved for ladies, a respectable profession where gratuities are impressive, yet I don’t know of a men’s group that makes a big deal about it. So, why the hell is it socially acceptable that jobs like this are reserved solely for ladies but if a job is solely reserved for men, then it becomes an issue of catastrophic proportions? There’s nothing about serving cocktails to players that demands that the server be a lady, so again, why is it okay for traditional ladies’ (lucrative) jobs to be left to women, while it’s verboten to have jobs strictly for men?

Best answer:

Answer by Laura
Because men don’t want to be served by men, only good looking women. I am not sure an older woman could get the job either.

The ones I know of are:
Ben Affleck (who, to my surprise, actually won the California State Poker Championship)
Shannon Elizabeth
Jennifer Tilly
James Woods
Hank Azaria
the lead singer of Godsmack (forgot his name)
the guy who directed Casino Royale (which explains why Bond played Texas Hold Em, not Baccarat)
Tobey MacGuire

Any others?
Matt Damon has played in a professional tournament, but was sponsored, so that doesn’t count. Plus he got his butt kicked by Doyle Brunson.
If you count Matt Damon, then you’d have to count Edward Norton too.
Does Fred Savage play regularly? I remember seeing him in that silly Celebrity Poker show where he flopped a nut full house. Didn’t know he was a regular player though.
Don Cheadle’s a regular player? I remember he hosted that event at the World Series, plus he took out Phil Ivey heads up, which I thought was pretty impressive.

Question by psychosoma1: What title should I give myself?
I don’t consider myself to be a Gambler!
A Gambler is a high risk taker, he puts his money out there “hoping” to win!
A Strategist is a minimal risk taker who puts his money out there “knowing” he’s going to win!
I recently quit my job because I discovered a way to make $ 50 per hour playing Baccarat in casinos locally.
I had been doing it for 6 months as a part time way to supplement my income and now I do it full time meaning I play 4 hours per day and make $ 200 a day.
When people ask me what it is I do for a living I don’t want to flat out tell them because I don’t want to hear skepticism!
I want to be respected in all aspects of life.
So what would you call my new profession?
I’ve been going by “Statistical Probability Analyst” what do you think??

Question by Allie: A few carnival glory questions?
Hi,
I was wondering about a few questions related to Carnival Glory as I’ll be sailing there.

1) Is it a freestyle cruise? Do you have to wear anything specific?
2) Does the casino aboard the Glory have Baccarat table game?

Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Dave123
Carnival Glory Review

The 2,974-passenger, 110,000-ton Carnival Glory, the second in Carnival’s Conquest class, is a colorful ship in more ways than one. With each public room celebrating a different shade of color, this ship takes the “rainbow connection” to a whole new level.

Onboard Carnival Glory, passengers will find a lively “let’s do it all” atmosphere. The constant announcements remind passengers of most of the daily activities. Occasional congestion occurs at the buffet during peak hours, particularly on sea days; on formal nights, lines form for photos along the Kaleidoscope Boulevard. Colors Bar in the atrium tends to fill up for pre-dinner cocktails. And yet there are offbeat, out-of-the-way spots — like the On the Green sports bar, the Ivory Club and the Ebony Caberet Lounge — that offer chances to escape from crowds.

Overall, Carnival Glory’s biggest strength is its appeal to a wide variety of travelers, from families and groups to couples.

Question by jackie: Italian men from Italy ?
I’ve met men from Rome and Naples and here is the list:

When I was younger – Age 24: Met in a casino @ the baccarat table. The kid flew to U.S once a month just to gamble. Said he was a “hairdresser”.

Age 35 (recent) – Said he moved to NY because he shot and killed 4 people in his hometown of Naples . Also lied and cheated on his black gf with for a year. I found out and dumped him.

Now another man from Naples: He’s been in NY for 3 years and he’s already a regional director fro Century 21 in a very exclusive real estate area . All this in just 3 years ??

All the Italian men I’ve met are”fishy” . I’m really trying to stay away from Italian men am I generalizing ?

Does the top real estate tycoon from Naples sound fishy too ?

Best answer:

Answer by Mari76
I think the men you have been dating are fishy, but I also think you have just had rotten luck. I’ve been living in Italy for 9 years, and have had 3 Italian boyfriends (I’m on love number 3). All of them have been very friendly, down-to-earth, sweet, great in bed, etc. I’ve met some Italian jerks, but I put them in their place right away. Maybe the Italian guys you meet think you are a dumb American and take advantage of you. They probably think you are gullible and will believe everything, and from what it seems it looks like they are right. These guys probably don’t mean any harm, but probably think a little white lie will give them a better chance of going to bed with you. There are good Italian guys, but you have to look for them. Oh, and a casino is usually not the place.

Best answer:

Answer by LegFuJohnson
I like Pai Gow.

The game goes a lot slower than blackjack, and you push quite often, so no money changes hands. Some people don’t like that.

I never saw the appeal of mini-bacarrat. You bet on player or dealer, but you have no control over anything, you just watch.

Paigow you set your own hand, and as I said, you can play a lot without losing a lot, thanks to all the pushes. If you really crave the action, try craps.
