I want to know what is the best book for BlackJack Basic strategy and counting, it’s ok if it is more than one , just explain the main use of each one , bye the way Thanks for your time =).

Basic strategy is simply a chart that tells you what do do in every instance. You have to commit it to memory. Of course it helps if you understand why each move is the best. A good book would be one that has different charts depending on slight variations in house rules. The book should also explain the house or player edge (odds of winning over the long term) if the basic stradegy is followed exactly. Again this varies slightly depending on house rules. Your odds are better at some tables than at others. You need to be able to find casinos and which tables offer the best chance of winning

A good blackjack book should aslo discuss how to manage you betting and manage your bankroll.

As for card counting, it is very difficult to do. The casinos deployed so many stradiges to foil card counters that it is almost impossible. It is nothing like what you see in the movies. Many people will tell you differently, so you are welcome to give it a try.

1. Stand on hard 12-16 against dealer 2-6
2. Double on 10,11 against dealer 2-9
3. Always split eights, nines, and aces
4. Stand on soft 18 or more
5. Stand on hard 17 or more
6. If rules 1-5 do not apply then hit
7. Never take insurance

Don’t try to beat the house and don’t try to beat the house. This is all the advice you need. And don’t be gready. Play 1 hand high amount of money and if you loose or win go home. This game is worth plaing only if you like loosing money.

I’ve found the odds in Spanish Blackjack to be worse than regular blackjack. I recommend not playing it at all, that would be my basic strategy! Stick to the regular blackjack tables.

In regards to basic strategy:
1.Why should you stand against a dealers 4, 5, or 6 if you hold a 12?

2.Why should you stand against a dealers 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 if you hold a 16?

In regards to the game in general:
1.Can you Double Down and then Hit? (Double down, receive card, then when you get your new total, hit?)

2.Can you Hit and then Double Down? (Hit, receive card, hen when you get your new total, Double Down?)

3.Can you Double Down twice? (Double Down, receive card, then Double down again?)

1.you should stand with a 12 if the dealer has a 4,5,6 (bust card) because the chances are is that he has 14,15, or 16 and that his next card will be a bust.
2. Really the same answer as #1 just even a better idea because you have a very good chance of busting with a 16.

Apply basic strategy to a 25 cent coin operated machine, just make sure it allows doubling and splitting, your expected loss wont come ANYWHERE near the value of free mixed drinks you will be getting all night long.

About odds on the table games, vegas has probibly ten thousand blackjack tables, many casinos offer different rules that yeild different odds evn on table in the same casino, it is impossible to keep tabs, but you can evaluate them by looking at how they are dealt.

Avoid tables where…….
-Dealer hits a soft 17 (says so on the felt, by it NOT saying he satnds on 17, and instead says hits to soft 17, and stands soft 18′s)
-Blackjack pays 6:5 or 7:5, or even money (says so on the felt)
-Doubling after splitting is not permitted
-BEWARE SINGLE DECK game where blackjack pays 6:5

Look for table where…..
-Dealer stands soft 17
-blackjack pays 3:2
-fewer decks, but not less than 3, or basic strategy will be different, however the odds will be better as long as other rules are nto added to make the ods worse.
-double after splittign allowed.
-split more than once, or more than twice

does basic strategy apply only to the first 2 cards?- that is if the dealer has a 10 and i end up with a 4 card 15 do i still hit? or if i get 3 4″s (12) and the dealer has a 2 do i hit?

basic strategy relies only on the numbers. What do you have, vs. what the dealer is showing regardless of the number of cards.

Assuming most people don’t count cards at table

Everyone seems to believe in the basic strategy method to play blackjack but if you study the math behind it – Isn’t the player favored to lose?

in all hands totaling 9-16 on the chart not counting soft hands or pairs

there is 80 hands , 44 of the 80 hands seem to give bad advice Does that mean the house has a 10% theoretical edge if you follow it?

Futher examples – all 9, 10, 11 doubles you have 38-46% chance of getting good card so hence isnt doubling a bad bet?

Assuming dealer has a 10 in the hole is only a 31% chance

all hands they say to hit on 15/16 odds are against you?

all hands they say to stand on 12 through 14 the odds are against you?

Someone explain is Basic Strategy all Crap or am i missing something?

You seem to have a very good grasp on the mechanics of the game. Most stratagies will work for some but not all. in my experience I hit on low 12-15 and hold on 16+ and that has generally faired about 50-55% in my favor. Not real good winning percentage but it is fun to play. I have found great success when friends play at the same table who play the same system, you can see the others cards and know what they will do getting you better odds at beating the dealer or not losing more $ .

You need to use basic strategy even if you also count cards. Counting cards properly will only tell you when to increase your bets.

Ok, so i understand how to vary the bet size according to the count. But i dont know EXACTLY how to modify basic strategy depending on the count. ie. when to split 10′s, stand on 16 etc. Does anyone know or where i can find out.

Please let me know what counting strategy you answer applies to.

I’m also looking to write a program that keeps the perfect count so i know every card left in the deck. How can i use this info to sdjust basic strategy.

materyebyets – if the count was high, I would split 10s, but at what count would i split 10s against a six for example? Against an 8 surely the count would need to be even higher to split 10s. I’m looking for exact numbers here.

What’s a program going to do for you? I’m sure the on-line casinos “shuffle” the cards every hand of blackjack, don’t they?
