Q&A: How do the casinos make money on Baccarat?

Question by Robert: How do the casinos make money on Baccarat?
So, either the player wins, or the banker, and none of them lose money when a tie shows up. The odds of a banker and player showing up is almost equal, except the small 5% commission on banker. So, my question is that how is this game profitable for the casino? Basically, it seems to me that they are only profiting on the tie, and the 5% commission, because based on equal odds of player and banker, half of the players should win, and half should lose their bets in the long run [let's say in a sample of 1 million bets per year]. Someone clear things up for me please, because I think the 5% commission would never satiate the casino owners who are seeking to make big money out of these games.

So let’s review…let’s call it a built-in 5% house edge plus ties (which are sizable). Given how much money gets played by whales, that’s a sizable chunk.

You’re talking 5% of the total take. That’s huge.

If US$ 10mm gets wagered, the casino is keeping $ 500,000 (just on the commission), not counting ties. If $ 10mm gets wagered every week, that’s $ 26mm for the casino (and these are very conservative estimates, given that you’re talking close to $ 70-$ 90mm in total wagers on a typical day on all forms of gaming).

Plus, if you’re betting on the player and I’m betting on the banker…only one of us is winning.

Trust me…they’re doing very well.

Why is it that casinos have cocktail waitresses but no such analogous position exists for men…?

Question by Bear: Why is it that casinos have cocktail waitresses but no such analogous position exists for men…?
Frankly, I don’t see many men making a big deal about this, despite the fact that these cocktail waitresses make a serious living through the tips they get for serving cocktails to those losing wads of cash whilst playing Baccarat or Blackjack or even the older ladies who play nickel slots.

But here’s a profession that’s entirely reserved for ladies, a respectable profession where gratuities are impressive, yet I don’t know of a men’s group that makes a big deal about it. So, why the hell is it socially acceptable that jobs like this are reserved solely for ladies but if a job is solely reserved for men, then it becomes an issue of catastrophic proportions? There’s nothing about serving cocktails to players that demands that the server be a lady, so again, why is it okay for traditional ladies’ (lucrative) jobs to be left to women, while it’s verboten to have jobs strictly for men?

Best answer:

Answer by Laura
Because men don’t want to be served by men, only good looking women. I am not sure an older woman could get the job either.

Are the blackjack games in gambling casinos computer controlled so that they pay off on a percentage basis?

Question by PILL: Are the blackjack games in gambling casinos computer controlled so that they pay off on a percentage basis?
The payoff percentages on slot play are legally adjustable so why not the blackjack games? I am referring to blackjack games that have real people for dealers.Probability laws donot appear to hold true in casino blackjack even if you are only watching the game over an extended period of time.

No, the cards don’t lie. It’s a percentage game simple as that. If counting cards were legal more people would beat the house because it’s easier to know when to hit or stand. The dealer has the same chance on drawing cards of equal, same or lesser value. The trick is watching what other players are doing at the table. Depending on their cards and whether they hit or not (those sitting before you) will have a lot to do with whether you stay or hit. To count cards you appoint the number 1 to cards 10 thru A and 0 to cards 1 thru 6 and ignore cards 7 thru 9. So each time an A comes up you add 1. If the next card is a, say, K you add another one for a total of two points. If the next card is a 3 you subtract 1. When it’s all said and done, counting this way, when you have dealt one entire deck of cards you should be at 0. That’s why many tables use more than one deck. It’s harder to keep up with the count. DO NOT try this in a real casino. It is illegal, can be banned from that casino and every other one in the town and, I’m not sure, but I think it’s a criminal offense as well.

casinos banning because of the time played and money won?

Question by _: casinos banning because of the time played and money won?
if you win, for example, $ 100,000 over about 15 minutes of blackjack or baccarat and leave while you’re ahead, and do this consistently, do you think the casinos will ban you? is 15 minutes too short of a time for you to play? how long do they want you to play so that they will have a “fair” go at your money? does it matter if you divide that time up in the day? for instance, if they like you to play for an hour, can you play for 15 minutes 4 times a day?

Best answer:

Answer by GamblingMaster
You can leave when you want, just think for yourself, not for the casino, they will be alright and if they ban you then they are not fair.
There is no casino rule that you cant leave the table after 15 minutes.

Q&A: What happens if you count cards at blackjack in Indian casinos?

Question by beingagood1: What happens if you count cards at blackjack in Indian casinos?
Traditionally, in Vegas-type casinos, if a card-counter is detected, he is escorted into an office and cheerfully informed that if he ever returns they will break both his legs. I was wondering if Indian casinos have continued this tradition. For those unaware, card-counting, based on the “tens strategy”, beats the house at blackjack.

Best answer:

Answer by Joe C
It all depends on their attitude.

Your description of the Vegas policies in not correct, except in the vast minority of cases. They will not threaten a person, but will usually politiely ask him not to return because his caliber of play is too skillful. If the person does return, then he might be “86,d” or read a trespass act to not return.

Card counting is simply a skilled way of playing the game, like remembering the letters that have already been used in a game of Scrabble.

Here’s an interesting article:

You might want to ask more about the currrent policies of Indian casinos on the forum at bj21.com (Stanford Wong’s site), but I think there are better, more entrepreneurial ways to make money.

While most online casinos have a $ 2 min. bet for blackjack tables, some online blackjack tables do have a $ 1 min bet. You just have to look around but they are not to hard to find.

You can find some pretty fair online casino reviews at http://onlinecasinos-usa.com or http://www.casinoally.com
