Q&A: I made a big mistake while gambling online, what can I do?

Question by trey: I made a big mistake while gambling online, what can I do?
I used to be a licensed casino dealer. I love gambling. I usually don’t gamble because I can’t afford it, and usually I am responsible with my money. Due to misfortune, I am now living in a state with no casinos, and have been out of work for a year and 4 months. I broke down and went to an online casino, convinced that I could get over on the casino with roulette, as I was a roulette dealer and have seen people who know how to use the outside bets. I lost $ 200. I would get close to winning my money back, but every time I lost it again. I kept going up and down for several hours, always hovering around a $ 200 loss. I am broke now, and very resentful. I am so depressed that I hate myself. How can I get my money back? Should I write a letter to Oprah, play the lottery, hang myself, etc???

Answer by volleyballboxy
um.. you should def. not hang yourself, but start by getting a job to earn money. You smart to live in an area without cosinos, but only you can prevent yourself from going online. I suggest that you find a support group, and get out of this loop that is only going to keep repeating.

is online gambling like roulette legal in illinois?

Question by jason: is online gambling like roulette legal in illinois?

Best answer:

Answer by Bret
It is basically decriminalized. In other words, they won’t come after you for playing at an online casino, but, if given the opportunity, they will go after the casino itself.

That said, one group of people that would be interested in your playing at an online casino is the IRS. If you are playing small amounts, do not worry. But, if you win very, very large amounts, I’d talk to someone with knowledge about how to either:

A) Get that money to you without having to pay any taxes.
B) How to report that money.

Brief History of Internet Gambling
A look at the history of gambling in the United States shows that it has evolved in waves, with public sentiment shifting back and forth from embracing gambling to prohibiting it.Gambling was largely practiced in the early U.S., primarily in the form of lotteries, until it was completely banned in the 1890’s.However, gambling started making a comeback in the 1920’s and was fully legalized in Nevada in 1931, providing American gamblers with an outlet through which to place their bets. Las Vegas remained the primary location for legal gambling until the 1970’s, when more forms of casinos began to be legalized, including riverboat and Indian reservation casinos. In fact, gambling has now evolved to the point that at least some form of gambling is legal in all but two states and revenues from gambling eclipse the revenues from theme parks, video games, movie tickets, and music recordings combined.

With the expansive growth of the gambling industry and the evolution of technology, it is no surprise that the new wave in gambling is occurring on the world wide web. Though internet gambling is a relatively recent phenomenon, it has exploded in a way that few industries ever do. The first online casino began operation in 1995 with an offering of eighteen online games, and since then the industry has boomed at such a rate that an estimated 30 million gamblers visited internet gambling sites in July of 2005 alone. While data about revenues is varied, even conservative estimates have the industry growing from $ 1 billion in profits in 1997 to a staggering $ 10.9 billion in 2006. This phenomena has truly revolutionized gambling, allowing gamblers to place wagers on all sorts of games and events from the comfort of their home. However, the new industry also raises a variety of concerns over how the law ought to properly deal with internet gambling

Interesting math problem – gambling statistics?

Question by Sarr: Interesting math problem – gambling statistics?
You walk into a casino with 00 in your pocket. Your game strategy is to maximize the probability of a win. A win is defined
as an event in which you leave the casino with more money than you came in with. Your tactics is to always bet on ”black” in roulette, which has 1/2 probability of success. Once the wheel is spun, and the ball falls on ”black”, you get back twice the money you bet; otherwise you get back zero. Your tactics is ”bet doubling”: you double your previous bet after each loss. The minimum allowed bet is , maximum ,000. You have made up your mind to leave immediately in case of a win (according to the definition above). You also must leave if it becomes clear you
can not win.
Question 1: What is the probability of loss (”loss” = ”not win”) in the above strategy?
Question 2: If such loss occurs, how much money will still be left in your pocket as you leave?

Okay, the pattern follows 2^(n-1), where n = bet number

n – bet amount (assuming all losses)
1 1
2 2
3 4
4 8
5 16
6 32
7 64
8 128
9 256
10 512

When you sum up your bets, you can only get to the 9th one, totaling 511 dollar loss, so you have 489 left and can’t make your next bet.

So what is the probability of a loss?

Thanks for your help.

Best answer:

Answer by Simon L
The probability of loss is (1/2)^9, or 1/256.
If this occurs, you will be left with 9.

This strategy of bet doubling is known as the Martingale and has been widely proven unsuccessful due to betting limits.

Technically, in the context of roulette your statement that the probability of getting black is 1/2 is not true. The 00 makes a big difference, and swings the game in favour of the house. This 00 is why there is no such thing as a Roulette “system”, a strategy that will guarantee gains.

Is roulette sniper a good roulette gambling system?

roulette strategy

Question by allemcdaniel: Is roulette sniper a good roulette gambling system?
I’m new to online gambling and i’ve been trying some strategies that have worked for me at real casinos, but i keep losing online. I’m thinking that since you’re playing against a computer, you’d need some kind of computer software to get any kind of edge. I’ve looked around for some roulette software and the one I hear most peeople having success with is Roulette Sniper.

Is roulette sniper a good roulette betting system? Will a beginner to online roulette be able to figure out how to use it?

Thanks.
also: what system does it use? i.e. how much will i have to bet and how much should i expect to win per hour?

Best answer:

Answer by Player
Albert Einstein once said “the only way to win at roulette is to cheat”. There are no working systems for the game, the only way to make money from a roulette system is to sell it.
